- Employee of the Year Awards Ceremony (Gala) – 22nd March 2024
Eligibility
- Open to Kenyan Companies: Entries are open to companies across Kenya.
- Employee Nomination/Endorsement: Employees will be nominated or endorsed by their respective companies for the award.
- Minimum Employment Duration: Entries must be for employees who have been with the company for at least one year, for the period ending June 2023.
- Positive Work Record: The nominee should have a satisfactory performance record, with no recent disciplinary actions or performance issues.
The ideal winner of the Employee of the Year Award – Tech and AI Excellence is a tech-savvy, innovative, and collaborative individual working in Kenya. They have integrated technology and AI to drive business growth, showcasing strong problem-solving, leadership potential, and continuous learning. This award recognizes their outstanding contributions to the organization’s success.
Rules for Submission
- Eligibility: Employees CANNOT nominate themselves, their peers, or friends. Only organization leaders (CEO, COO, Founders, HR Managers and VPs) can nominate employees for the award.
- One Nominee Per Organization: Each organization is allowed to nominate ONLY one employee for the Employee of the Year Awards.
- Single Nomination: An organization cannot nominate the same employee more than once. Only one nomination per employee will be accepted.
- Online Submissions: All nominations must be submitted through the official website, www.employeeoftheyear.africa. No other means of submission will be accepted.
- Deadline: The nominee panel will strictly adhere to the submission deadline. No submissions will be accepted after the specified date and time.
- Fair Representation: To ensure fairness and representation from various employers, the awards committee encourages organizations from different industries and sizes to participate.
- Impartial Evaluation: The judging panel will consist of diverse professionals, including HR experts, HR tech specialists, industry leaders, and representatives from IHRM (Institute of Human Resource Management) to ensure an unbiased evaluation process.
- Confidentiality: All submitted information and nominations will be treated with strict confidentiality and used solely for the purpose of the awards evaluation.
- Validation and Verification: The awards committee reserves the right to validate the accuracy and authenticity of the information provided in the nominations.
- No Self-Promotion: Organizations and nominees are not allowed to engage in any form of self-promotion or lobbying to influence the judging process.
- Announcement of Winners: The names of the winners will be announced on the official website and other designated platforms. The decision of the judging panel will be final and binding.
- Withdrawal of Nominations: An organization may request to withdraw a nomination before the submission deadline. Once the deadline has passed, nominations cannot be withdrawn.
- Disqualification: Nominations that do not adhere to the submission guidelines or attempt to manipulate the process may result in disqualification.
- Feedback: The awards committee will not provide detailed feedback on individual nominations but may offer general insights or guidance if required.
- Ineligibility: Employees of the organizing committee or partners involved in the awards are not eligible to participate.

No, each organization can only nominate one employee for ETYA 2023
The nominating companies are classified into 5 groups based on the number of employees. I.e. 0-10, 11-50, 51-100, 101-500 and 500+ employees
The judges use standard qualities/parameters of employees as submitted by their organizations e.g. Leadership, initiative, innovation, and generally employees who go beyond their role description.
Employee of the Month, Employee of the Year may be chosen based on the following award selection criteria:
- Excellence in performance
- Peer-to-peer communication and association
- Leadership qualities
- Personal accomplishments
- Team accomplishments
- Milestones crossed
- Number of points earned according to a point system

ETYA 2023 judges will be drawn from distinguished HR practitioners as well as members of the HR body IHRM
